Crowd Dynamics and Risk Management Mastermind


The Mastermind will be delivered in two sessions to cater for all time zones. Each interactive session will be limited to max 20 attendees and divided into two 2-hour segments with an hour break in between.

The core concepts we will explore include:
(1) Fundamentals of Crowd Dynamics and how to navigate them
(2) How to run risk analysis which can reveal advantages for your event
(3) Advanced knowledge of how to access and adapt a plan quickly

Such skills are key for any change or adjustment to an event.

Course attendees will leave with:
(1) A toolkit to analyse any crowd management plan for its strengths and weaknesses
(2) The knowledge to create a plan that maximises the participant experience without compromising safety
(3) Strategies to adapt a plan mid-event where necessary
(4) Insights into how to ensure the plan takes into consideration the requirements of all stakeholders

Meet Marcel Altenburg

One of the global experts at the centre of using crowd dynamics for risk management planning is Marcel Altenburg MSCc MA, Senior Lecturer and Program Leader, Crowd Science at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Marcel has been helping the likes of London, New York and Chicago Marathons, the Bundesliga and some English Premier League Clubs apply crowd dynamics to the creation of COVID-safe risk management plans. He has also worked for United Nations, Expo 2020 and UEFA 2020.

Marcel's experience and solutions have been honed way before the onset of COVID helping events increase capacity, enhance participant experiences and engage with stakeholders.

As a passionate runner himself, Marcel has a unique ability to strike a balance between ensuring safety whilst not compromising the participant experience and having realistic regard for an event organiser's budget and P&L.

Meet Chris Robb

Chris is a 35 year Mass Participation veteran which has seen him at the helm of events for over 1 million people including the 60,000 runner Singapore Marathon. He is also the author of Mass Participation Sports Events as well as being an international speaker who has spoken in 15 countries.

As the CEO and Founder of Mass Participation World Chris is passionate about providing a platform for industry to collaborate and share best practice.

Since the onset of the Pandemic this has involved the curation and delivery of fortnightly free MPW Web Series webinars, The Aid Station podcast which has in just over a year delivered over 100 episodes with guests from over 50 countries, fortnightly Strength in Numbers industry calls and a partnership with World Athletics hosting and delivering webinars.

The sixth edition of the MPW Annual Conference will take place from 6-8 December this year.
